Carla Boutwell – Volunteer Extraordinaire!

We recently honored Carla at our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for the ten years she has faithfully volunteered at Hospitality House.  Carla heard about Hospitality House Carla (2)in 2005 from a co-worker who volunteered at the House.  She became an overnight volunteer in August 2005 and within a few short months she was the new Overnight Volunteer Coordinator.  She has continued in this position ever since.  She recruits, trains and supports all overnight volunteers, serves as an overnight volunteer at least once a month and is a loving presence to all of the women.

But there is so much more to her story.  Carla also served on the Hospitality House Board for three years, has designed and created the yearly volunteer luncheon invitations, helps with fundraisers and in the last four years has provided meals for the women of Hospitality House as a volunteer from Normandy Park United Congregational Church.

Carla has worked at the Highline School District for over 24 years and is currently a para educator at Highline High School working the past 13 years as a tutor in an intervention reading program called ‘Read Right’.

Carla never gets tired of sharing that special moment with the women when they find that transitional housing arrangement, apartment or house as the next step in their lives after Hospitality House.
