2017 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s volunteer appreciation luncheon – a good time was had by all!

Congratulations to Priscilla Stephenson, this year’s recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award (now renamed the Linda Shaw Volunteer Award). Priscilla has supported Hospitality House since its inception in 2000.  She has made meals, stayed overnight, assisted with countless fundraisers and served on the Board of Directors with Linda Shaw as co-representatives from Lake Burien Presbyterian Church.  She and Linda were friends since 3rd grade, so it was fitting that Linda’s close friend was the first recipient of the newly renamed award.

My name is Candis Dover-Andrews, and I was the Keynote Speaker at your Volunteer Luncheon this past November 2017..
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hospitality House for all of the love and patience you have shown me. Some of the Poetry in my book I wrote during my residence there. I would not have received my housing if it were not for you, and the gracious volunteers! I appreciate you with my whole heart, and I will always be grateful to you. It was not an easy task being a recovering addict who hadn’t been employed for years, transitioning from Detroit, Michigan to Washington State. Hospitality House made it much easier for me to make that difficult transition by providing structure for me, and making sure I was safe. My case manager was a little tough, but little did I know, at the time that was exactly what I needed. You are a part of my history and a part of my family. My children and I thank you for everything. They finally have their Mom back!
